Your Weight Loss Journey
Obesity is a chronic disease. It should receive the same attention and importance, as heart failure, diabetes and renal disease, for example. Hence seeing it purely as an imbalance between calories IN and calories OUT is a very simplistic way of looking at a very complex disease.
We employ following steps to weight loss:
Initial medical assessment:
Doctor sees you for an initial consultation and explores your medical history in great detail. Idea is to identify diagnosed or undiagnosed health conditions and medications that may be contributing to weight gain or difficulty in losing it.
Detailed lifestyle and dietary assessment:
This is done by our dieticians and weight loss psychologists. The importance of our lifestyle, habits, dietary choices and eating patterns cannot be overstated. A complex disease like obesity cannot be properly managed without addressing these.
Psychological assessment:
Weight loss psychologists are experts in helping people make behavioural and lifestyle changes that assist with weight management. This is often neglected, as both patients and some doctors tend to focus on more tangible strategies.
It is also imperative to identify co-existing mental illnesses, as without managing them weight loss can not be achieved.
Follow up consultation:
At this consultation an individualised approach is formulated for weight management.
At the end of the process you will have a ‘weight loss management plan’, which will constitute a variable combination of following:
A diet plan
A behavioural management plan
Weight loss medications
Endoscopic weight loss therapy
Recommendation for surgery
